Carter Gill is an illustrator living and working in New York City. He holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration from Parsons School of Design, and published his first book, Under the Chestnut Tree, in 2023. He currently works for Macmillan Children Publishing Group’s imprint First Second as a book designer.

As an illustrator, Gill works primarily in oil paints, inks, and graphite, with his narrative illustrations regularly featuring themes of fantasy and sci-fi. His work has been featured by Tor Books, the Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, Desert Island Comics, and others.

Outside of publishing, Gill has a professional background in game design, interactive installations, and animation, as well as being an avid appreciator and fan of all things art.
